There are few documentaries on Netflix that focus on the benefits of hard work and determination. I’ve watched so many where criminality seems to benefit individuals financially even though they are morally bankrupt.
The docuseries Sprint bucked the trend as it looked at athletes preparing for competitions. It looked mostly at the rivalry between USA and Jamaica. The rivalry especially amongst the female athletes drove them to work harder for marginal gains of hundreds of a second.
Noah Lyles back story before his success on the track was inspirational. He had severe asthma his mother thought he wouldn’t survive.

He strutted around shooting his mouth off disrespecting other athletes to their face. He wore flamboyant outfits to stand out and get attention. He was hard to like or relate to in the early episodes but he had a beautiful relationship with his mother (a former athlete).
Noah Lyles had success in the 200m and he was trying to go for the sprint double. The relationship with the coach and the intensity of the training showed the time and commitment necessary for success. He wept uncontrollably when he first won gold in the 100m, his tears revealed to the viewers how much it meant to him.

Equally, as loud and energetic was Sha’Carri Richarson she gave side eye to the other athletes, she moved into their personal space everything to distract and unnerve others. Again when she won the 100m after almost missing the final.

My daughter is an athlete at the junior level and although some of the language wasn’t age appropriate she was inspired to train harder. Hopefully, it will inspire the next generation to see that not everything in life comes easy.
