No matter how you feel about the small boat migrant should we be ignoring experts in the fire service saying the barge in Dorset is a fire hazard?
I heard the fire chief talk about how many people should be housed on the barge he claims there is a lack of fire exits, narrow corridors, and overcrowding when it’s at full occupancy.
I would have thought the Home Secretary would make a meeting with fire service a priority before this suggestion. Have we dehumanised asylum seekers and refugees that we are willing to gaslight people who are trying to do their jobs ? Surely, humanitarian solutions are important to more people than ‘lefty lawyers’. Someone has to speak for the voiceless. In all the conversations about the small boats, there’s no empathy. On daytime television discussions on Deputy Chairman of Conservative Party said in an interview if they don’t like the barge, they can ‘f**k off back to France’ his excuse ‘frustration’ has public life and debate sunk so low that this language is defended by his party and members of British public. That kind of language is so harmful and racist in its connotation – how many of us heard ‘go back to your own country’?
My point is that we need to learn the lessons of Grenfell before it’s too late.
